THE horses were exciting, of course, but it was two famous models-cum-celebrities in the David Jones marquee who really turned heads at the Caulfield Cup yesterday.

Basking in the spring sunshine, Miranda Kerr and Megan Gale fulfilled their ambassadorial duties for the department store trackside in the VIP enclosure.

Gale, who had flown down from Sydney for the day, was the epitome of racing elegance in a blush-pink floral frock designed especially for her by Alex Perry.

"Alex actually has a block of my body, so whenever I don't have much time to prepare I always go to him," the model said. "I wanted something really feminine in blush tones, so I chose the colours and he designed the print and the dress."

A sea of fascinators and suits parted in the mounting enclosure when New York-based Kerr swanned through in a canary-yellow Lisa Ho frock and teetering heels.

It was a day when Melbourne's social set glammed up and turned out to celebrate the first major race meeting of the 2008 spring racing calendar. Kicking up their heels in the David Jones marquee, the Pegasus Club and the BMW enclosure were AFL chief Andrew Demetriou, cricketer Brian Lara, TV stars Tom Gleisner, Julia Zemiro and Tim Campbell, former Olympic swimmer Matt Welsh and partner Lauren Newton, and Gary Ablett's girlfriend, Lauren Phillips.
