Geldings Aplenty

Illawarra Mercury

Friday November 28, 2008

By CHRIS ROOTS

BEDE Murray is convinced he has two derby horses in Coniston Bluebird and Universal Gold, but both will be a little lighter at their next starts.

The three-year-old colts are booked to be gelded today after Coniston Bluebird won over 2100m and Universal Gold resumed with a fifth to Stifle in a1400m maiden at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

"They both need it because they are a little headstrong," Murray said.

Coniston Bluebird will remain in work with the New Zealand Derby his target.

"He will get cut then spend a couple of weeks at the (Conjola) farm doing slow work before we get ready to go over to New Zealand," Murray said.
