HAVING turned his back on a promising rugby league career to stick with horses, Paul Snowden is relishing his new role as assistant trainer to father Peter and boss of the Melbourne stable of Australia's biggest owner, Bob Ingham.
Peter Snowden took over as head trainer for Ingham from John Hawkes in mid-November and Paul thought long and hard about taking the reins in Melbourne."Before Dad took over I was considering going out and training myself," Paul Snowden said on Thursday. "It was something I had been thinking about for the past six months. I am young and ambitious and training myself was something I wanted to do."Snowden said his father would have supported him in whatever he decided to do, with travelling overseas to work with horses also an option, but when the Melbourne job came up he all but volunteered to fill the position."At first I wasn't keen to take the job, didn't think I'd like Melbourne," he said. "But after a bit of a think about it I said to Dad I'd like to go down there."Since I've settled in things have been going good, the horses are going great. We are a family operation and working with Dad is fantastic. I think I've definitely made the right decision."
