Menangle Gets The Thumbs Up

"WHERE horses fly" is the slogan for the new Menangle Park Paceway and yesterday the track lived up to its reputation with a record-setting opening day.

The first winner smashed an Australian record for its age group and another record was broken on the nine-race card.

The fast times have raised hopes of more records this Sunday at the official opening meeting. More than 10,000 punters are expected to descend on the course to witness seven group one races on the 1400m circuit.

Veteran racecaller John Tapp took in the first day of racing and declared the new track would help harness racing recover from the impact of equine influenza.
