TRAINER Kevin Moses is testing a new batch of horses after putting away his successful autumn carnival team, including Sydney Cup winner No Wine No Song.
"It has just slackened off a little bit," Moses said. "The carnival winners have gone out for a break, but the new lot show a lot of promise."Moses will produce one of his new lot at Rosehill on Saturday when lightly raced three-year-old Superior Instinct runs in the Reckless Handicap. The gelding followed a maiden win at Canterbury in May with another victory at the same track three weeks ago."I have been able to take my time with him and let him mature, and now he is starting to reward the owners for their patience," Moses said."There is so much money in two-year-old races that we probably push horses too soon, it makes it harder to create the good staying horses."I also think that equine influenza could have been a blessing in disguise for some trainers. We have been able to give some horses that little bit of extra time."The three-time premiership-winning jockey turned trainer revealed he has been riding Superior Instinct at trackwork."I only ride him in his slow work, he is a hard-going horse," he said."Tim Clark rides him in his fast work. He rode him on Tuesday and reported he was going very well."Clark is out to make it three wins on the trot aboard Superior Instinct. "He [Superior Instinct] hurt his foot last run and has benefited from a freshen-up," Moses said. "He is going great and looking well and should put in a good show."The Randwick-based Moses is training out of temporary stables at Warwick Farm due to the World Youth Day disruptions."I don't like the getting there [Warwick Farm] and the going home, but all in all it is not too bad," he said.It has been a great year for Moses's stable, which is sixth in the metropolitan trainers' premiership."I am pretty proud of what we have achieved, things are going well," he said. "We are a fairly small operation. I only have about 20 in work."If you have a look through my horses none of them are real expensive."
